Transatlantic Studies in British and North American Culture

The interdisciplinary series Transatlantic Studies in British and North American Culture brings together literary and cultural studies concerning literatures and cultures of the English-speaking world, particularly those of Great Britain, Ireland, the United States, and Canada. The range of topics to be addressed includes literature, theater, film, and art, considered in various twenty-first-century theoretical perspectives, such as, for example (but not exclusively), New Historicism and canon formation, cognitive narratology, gender and queer studies, performance studies, memory and trauma studies, and New Art History. The editors welcome Ph.D. dissertations and Habilitation projects, as long as they constitute valuable and original contributions to the above fields. We are leaving a broad margin for the innovative and the unpredictable, hoping to attract authors whose approaches will point to new directions of research as regards both thematic areas and methods. Comparative Polish-Anglo-American proposals will be considered, too. Authors are welcome to submit manuscripts of monographs, collected volumes, post-conference volumes as well as dissertations. The series was formerly known as Gdańsk Transatlantic Studies in British and North American Culture.

The Asian American Studies series will continue to contribute to an understanding of the long neglected history, rich cultural heritage, and present position of Asian Americans in society. "This series deals with the relationship between literary creation and the social, political, and historical contexts in which it is produced. The types of volumes may include critical analyses of one or more works by one or several authors; critical editions of important works that may have been out of print for a long time, but which represent a major contribution to literature of the Iberian Peninsula or Latin America, English translations of important works, with critical introduction. Topics for Latin America include: studies of representative works of nineteenth- and twentieth-century thought, poetic portrayals of history, subgenres (fictionalization of the rural and urban social structures); historical novels; literature of exile; re-readings of colonial texts; new approaches to the figure of the Indian and other representatives of transculturation; women writers and other less studied authors. Topics for Spain and Portugal include: writing and nationalism in the Spanish State; bilingualism and the literary texts; censorship and exile; new and renewed genres such as autobiography and testimony; the formation of the avant-garde. The series Regensburg Studies in British and American Languages and Cultures was established in 1971 and publishes studies on the languages, literatures and cultures of North America, the British Isles, as well as the English-speaking regions of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Caribbean. Within a transhistorical, transnational and interdisciplinary conceptual framework, the monographs in this series have stressed different areas of focus in their engagement with textual, performative, visual, material and virtual forms of representation. Recent subjects of investigation have been, for instance, language variation and varieties of English as well as the representation and enactment of regional, (trans)national and global identities. Modern American Literature

The books in the Modern American Literature: New Approaches series deal with many of the major writers known as American realists, modernists, and post-modernists from 1880 to the present. This category of writers will also include less known ethnic and minority writers, a majority of whom are African American, some are Native American, Mexican American, Japanese American, Chinese American, and others. The series might also include studies on well-known contemporary writers, such as James Dickey, Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, John Barth, John Updike, and Joyce Carol Oates. In general, the series will reflect new critical approaches such as deconstructionism, new historicism, psychoanalytical criticism, gender criticism/feminism, and cultural criticism.

Contributions to English and American Literary Studies provides visibility for excellent work on English, American and Anglophone literatures. Ibero-American Screens / Pantallas Iberoamericanas

Manuel Palacio, Miguel Fernández Labayen & Vicente Rodríguez Ortega This series approaches the Ibero-American audiovisual field—cinema and television—from an interdisciplinary perspective, with special emphasis on studies stemming from Media Studies and Cultural Studies. We are especially interested in those volumes that examine audiovisual production in the Iberian Peninsula and/or Latin America from a comparative perspective. In addition, the collection will include studies on the production, distribution and circulation of audiovisual artifacts in the digital era. Consequently, we include works that explore the relationship between audiovisual media and other fields of popular culture, such as music and sports. We accept both theoretical proposals on audiovisual media and historical approaches that scrutinize a specific period of cinema or television in one or several geopolitical spaces. The series includes volumes on industrials aspects and political economy and reflections on key aspects for the articulation of both national and transnational imaginaries, such as memory and representational templates. The featured volumes can be monographs or collections of essays by different authors, in Spanish or English. Esta colección se acerca al ámbito audiovisual iberoamericano—cine y televisión— desde una perspectiva interdisciplinar, con especial énfasis en estudios provenientes de la Comunicación y los Estudios Culturales. Son de especial interés aquellos volúmenes que examinen la producción audiovisual de la Península Ibérica y/o Latinoamérica desde una perspectiva comparativa. Además, son especialmente relevantes aquellos estudios que aborden las transformaciones en la producción, distribución y circulación de los artefactos audiovisuales en la era digital. This series publishes titles from any area of Iberian and Latin American Studies that explore issues relating to questions of identity. The series accepts for publication scholarly monographs and collections of essays that aim to further our knowledge and understanding of the lives of individuals and communities who speak any of the languages of the Iberian Peninsula or Latin America. Ideas and concepts of identity can be explored at various levels, ranging from the individual to the national or international, and in different media. Proposals are welcome from researchers working in any cultural field, for example, the history of ideas, literature, performance, cinema, art and photography, and on a variety of issues, including nationhood, exile, memory, and gender. The series welcomes manuscripts in English or Spanish.

This series aims to publish studies in the arts, humanities and social sciences, the main focus of which is the Hispanic World. The series invites proposals with interdisciplinary approaches to Hispanic culture in fields such as history of concepts and ideas, sociology of culture, the evolution of visual arts, the critique of literature, and uses of historiography. It is not confined to a particular historical period. Monographs as well as collected papers are welcome. Languages of publication are English, Spanish and Spanish-American.

The series aims at bringing together the long-divorced disciplines of the study of language, literature and culture by inviting scholars working in each of these areas to consider the unique implications of their own field in a larger epistemic context. The interdisciplinary approach of volumes in the series should allow to develop a scholarly discourse which affords a comprehensive picture of English studies. Editors wish to include both text- and corpus-based research as well as works of theoretical concern. Monographs and collections of articles appearing in the series will focus primarily on English and American language, literature and culture, but studies with a comparative slant are also invited.

"Transcription: Cultures – Concepts – Controversies is dedicated to publishing work that explores culture as cultures, interrogates concepts, methods, and theories, and intervenes in controversies about cultures and concepts. The term transcription acknowledges that all cultures engage in acts of translating and transforming performed, spoken, written, or digitalized languages, images, and sounds from one medium into another; it also refers, more specifically, to processes of encoding and transferring genetic information. The series focuses on, yet is not limited to, explorations of North American cultural practices and encourages dialogues between seemingly distant disciplines.
