Individual or collective, assumed or imposed, accepted or disputed, identities mark out the basic framework that root the human being in society. Language, literature, the creation of a shared memory, social formulas and the range of cultural expressions have contributed to articulating human life as a mixture of identities. Accordingly, no less than a sum of interdisciplinary perspectives, from different areas of research into the Humanities and Social Sciences, will supply us with the keys to understand the historical process and current reality of the human being in society. From this diversity, researchers using the prism of identity in any field of the Social Sciences and Humanities are invited to submit their works to the editorial board of the serie Identities. An interdisciplinary approach to the roots of the present. Individuelles ou collectives, assumées ou imposées, acceptées ou combattues, les identités configurent le premier cadre d’’enracinement de l’’être humain en société. La langue, la littérature, la création d’’une mémoire commune déterminée, les formules sociales et toutes les expressions culturelles ont contribué à articuler la vie humaine comme un treillis d’’identités. Seule une somme de perspectives interdisciplinaires contribuera donc à ce que, depuis les différents domaines de recherche des humanités et des sciences sociales, nous puissions trouver les clefs pour comprendre le parcours historique et la réalité présente de l’’être humain en société. À partir de cette diversité, les chercheurs adoptant le prisme de l’identité dans n’importe quel domaine des sciences humaines et sociales sont invités à soumettre leurs œœuvres au comité de rédaction de la collection Identités. Wor(l)ds of Change: Latin American and Iberian Literature

"This series deals with the relationship between literary creation and the social, political, and historical contexts in which it is produced. The types of volumes may include critical analyses of one or more works by one or several authors; critical editions of important works that may have been out of print for a long time, but which represent a major contribution to literature of the Iberian Peninsula or Latin America, English translations of important works, with critical introduction. Topics for Latin America include: studies of representative works of nineteenth- and twentieth-century thought, poetic portrayals of history, subgenres (fictionalization of the rural and urban social structures); historical novels; literature of exile; re-readings of colonial texts; new approaches to the figure of the Indian and other representatives of transculturation; women writers and other less studied authors. Topics for Spain and Portugal include: writing and nationalism in the Spanish State; bilingualism and the literary texts; censorship and exile; new and renewed genres such as autobiography and testimony; the formation of the avant-garde. Formal studies are expected to bear out the general contextual focus of the series. The use of recent developments in literary criticism is especially appropriate. The series also seeks to contribute to the understanding and accuracy of interpretation of the writing which has combined European elements with indigenous and African ones as well as to the understanding of the dynamics behind such major cultural issues as the formation of literary trends or subgenres, national identities, the effects of postcolonial status on literary imagination, the appearance and experience of women writers, and the relationships between post-modernism and Ibero-American writing. The series title is inclusive of literatures which are geographically, historically, or politically related and whose comparison is relevant to Spanish and Spanish American writing. This means those written in the other three languages of Spain, in Portugal, and Brazil. Comparative studies in which colonial or post colonial themes are prevalent may also be appropriate, if one of the literatures is in either Spanish or Portuguese. The breadth of the geographical area is intended to provide a forum for revealing and interpreting its multicultural aspects." By bringing together diverse perspectives, the series seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex ways in which queer identities are constructed and represented in Romance Cultures. The series welcomes contributions from scholars and experts in the field of Queer Studies, Romance Literature-, Cultural and Media Studies, Fashion Studies and Opera Studies in Spanish, French, English or Italian.

The aim of this series is to study diversity by privileging an interdisciplinary approach, through political, legal, cultural and social frameworks. The proposed method of inquiry will be to appeal, at once, to the fields of political philosophy, law, political science, history and sociology. In a period characterized by the increasing diversity of contemporary societies, the authors published in this series will explore avenues for the accommodation and management of pluralism and identity. Such studies will not be limited to assessments of federal states, but will include states that are on the path to federalization as well as non-federal states. Serious efforts will be undertaken to enrich our comprehension of so-called ‘nations without states’, most notably Catalonia, Scotland, Flanders and Quebec. A point of emphasis will also be placed on extracting lessons from experiences with civil law relative to those cases marked by the common law tradition. Monist and competing models will be compared in order to assess the relative capacity of each model to provide responses to the question of political instability, while pursuing the quest for justice in minority societies. The series also addresses the place of cities in the management of diversity, as well as the question of migration more generally and the issue of communities characterized by overlapping and hybrid identities. A profound sensitivity to historical narratives is also expected to enrich the proposed scientific approach. Finally, the works published in this series will reveal a common aspiration to advance social and political debates without privileging any particular school of thought. Cette collection cherche à étudier la diversité sous les angles politique, juridique, culturel et social en privilégiant le prisme de l’interdisciplinarité. La démarche scientifique proposée fait appel à la fois à la philosophie politique, au droit, à la science politique, à l’histoire, de même qu’à la sociologie. Au moment où les sociétés sont de plus en plus traversées par la diversité, les auteurs publiés dans cette collection exploreront des avenues en vue de gérer le pluralisme communautaire et identitaire. Sont mis à l’étude tout aussi bien les pays fédéraux et les pays en voie de fédéralisation que les pays non fédéraux. Des efforts importants seront consentis afin d’enrichir notre compréhension des nations dites «　sans État　» – pensons à la Catalogne, à l’Écosse, à la Flandre, au Pays basque et au Québec. Une volonté affirmée de mettre en parallèle les enseignements tirés des expériences civilistes et de celles propres au droit coutumier sera au rendez-vous. Les modèles monistes et concurrents seront mis dos à dos afin de saisir la capacité propre à chacun de fournir des réponses à l’instabilité politique tout en poursuivant la quête de justice pour les sociétés minoritaires. La place des métropoles au chapitre de la gestion de la diversité retiendra notre attention de même que les questions de migration des populations et du métissage communautaire. Une sensibilité à la trame historique viendra enrichir la démarche scientifique proposée. The «Cuadernos de Yuste» series collects the multilingual and cross-disciplinary contributions from the summer doctoral seminars organized by the European Academy of Yuste Foundation on European issues related to those linked to the work carried out by winners of the «Charles V European Award», given every two years. The seminars are coordinated by members of the Economic Governance and European Identity network, which gather German, Belgian, Spanish, French and Italian scholars who are joined by experts on the matters of discussion. The seminars welcome doctoral students, who may thus compare their current research, benefit from quality supervision and contact researchers from previous seminars that constitute the «Alumni from Yuste European Network». The series is open to other collective or monographic works - in German, English, Spanish and French -, that deal with issues studied in previous publications, such as Socio Economic Governance and European Identity; Relations between Europe and Russia in the 19th and 20th Centuries; Portugal and Spain in 20th Century Europe, Translation and Interpretation, or with topics that will be studied in forthcoming seminars. «Cuadernos de Yuste» recoge las actas, multilingües y pluridisciplinares, de los seminarios doctorales organizados por la Fundación Academia Europea de Yuste sobre temas europeos relacionados con aquellos temas que marcaron la labor de las personas galardonadas con el prestigioso «Premio Europeo Carlos V» otorgado cada dos años. In der mehrsprachigen «Cuadernos de Yuste» werden die Ergebnisse der von der Stiftung Europäische Akademie Yuste veranstalteten Sommer-Doktorandenseminare veröffentlicht. Diese interdisziplinären Studien stehen im Zusammenhang mit Leben und Werk der Preisträger des «Karl V. Europa-Preises», welcher in zwei-Jahres-Abständen verliehen wird. Die Seminare werden koordiniert von Mitgliedern des Forschungsnetzwerkes «Socio Economic Governance and European Identities», in dem Forscher aus Belgien, Deutschland, Frankreich, Italien und Spanien vereinigt sind. Zusätzlich werden zu den Seminaren gezielt einschlägig arbeitende Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler eingeladen. So können im Rahmen der Sommerseminare Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden aus ganz Europa ihre Forschungserkenntnisse präsentieren und mit etablierten Forschern sowie mit Teilnehmern vorangegangener Seminare diskutieren. Zusammen bilden sie die Gruppe der «Alumni des Yuste-Europanetzwerkes». Court Cultures of the Middle Ages and Renaissance

Court Cultures of the Middle Ages and Renaissance is a peer-reviewed series focused on the inter- and multi-disciplinary cultural output of medieval and Renaissance court culture on an international scale. The series invites proposals for single- and multi-authored monographs, edited collections and editions of early works relating to the court. Prospective authors are encouraged to submit proposals which highlight the central importance of the court to medieval and Renaissance culture, including projects that explore the life and/or works of writers, artists, historiographers, soldiers, composers, diplomats and courtiers, in the East as well as the West. Other areas of particular interest are courtly ritual (e.g. chivalric code, ceremonies, spectacle) and literary and artistic representations of the court. The series will also explore the role of the court in shaping national, religious and political identities, as well as its function as an interface between different cultures. The series is affiliated with the Trinity Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Trinity College Dublin. Each proposal is vetted by the Editorial Board and Chief Editor and undergoes a comprehensive peer-review process.

Fem-Mobilities: Feminismos y Movilidades

Contemporary migrations take place within the framework of varied geographical, social and symbolic mobilities with strong implications in terms of inequality and global stratification. Throughout history, women have always migrated, but their presence has been invisible or shown in a selective, partial and biased way (Morokvasic, 2011), which presents them more as dependents, sufferers and victims, than as protagonists of the migration. After decades of struggle for the development and implantation of feminist and gender studies in academia and the impact of the broad women's movement at a global level, today we are witnessing the consolidation of a "field" of studies, that of "gender and gender. migrations ». Feminist approaches have provided a set of concepts and categories of analysis that have contributed to restoring the agency of women in general, and in particular, the agency of migrant women. The diverse feminist perspectives allow us to understand how migrations politically, historically and contextually produce gender, the factors of production of political, economic and socio-cultural inequalities that affect the lives of migrant women, as well as the variety of their experiences, their positions and their identities. The FEM-MOBILITIES series is a space for the publication of works that focus on these feminist themes, approaches and perspectives on migration and refuge, with the aim of constituting a place for dialogue and debate, but also for constructive controversy around to the main axes of production of inequality and the ways to combat them. Las migraciones contemporáneas tienen lugar en el marco de movilidades geográficas, sociales y simbólicas variadas con fuertes implicaciones en términos de desigualdad y de estratificación global. A lo largo de la historia, las mujeres siempre han migrado, pero su presencia ha sido invisibilizada o mostrada de manera selectiva, parcial y sesgada (Morokvasic, 2011), lo que las presentan más como dependientes, sufrientes y víctimas, que como protagonistas de la migración. Tras décadas de lucha para el desarrollo e implantación de los estudios feministas y de género en la academia y de la incidencia del movimiento amplio de mujeres a nivel global, hoy asistimos a la consolidación de un «campo» de estudios, el de «género y migraciones». Los enfoques feministas han proporcionado un conjunto de conceptos y categorías de análisis que han contribuido a restituir en general la agencia de las mujeres, y en particular, la agencia de las mujeres migrantes. Las diversas perspectivas feministas nos permitan entender cómo las migraciones producen de manera política, histórica y contextual el género, los factores de producción de desigualdades políticas, económicas y socioculturales que inciden en la vida de las mujeres migrantes, así como la variedad de sus experiencias, sus posiciones y sus identidades. La serie FEM-MOBILITIES es un espacio para la publicación de obras que se centren en estos temas, enfoques y perspectivas feministas de las migraciones y el refugio con el objetivo de constituir un lugar de diálogo y de debate, pero también de controversia constructiva en torno a los principales ejes de producción de desigualdad y las formas de combatirlos.

Critical Studies of Latinxs in the Americas

The Latinx presence continues to grow and intersect with every aspect of life in the 21st century. This is evident when one considers the appointment of Sonia Sotomayor as Associate Justice to the United States Supreme Court. As well as the prominence of distinct Latinx individuals in various spheres of social, cultural, and political life such as Mario J. Molina, Nobel Prize winner and recipient of the Medal of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013; and Jorge Maria Bergoglio (Pope Francis) who has revolutionized the Catholic church since he became the highest ecclesiastical authority of the Catholic world in 2013. Latino Studies, as an academic field of inquiry, began to emerge during the early 1990s surfacing from the more recognized field of Chicano Studies. As such, the major contributions to the field first emerged from Mexican/Chicano scholarship—publications such as Aztlán, the most important journal in the field of Chicano Studies since 1970; Gloria Anzaldúa’’s groundbreaking memoir/essay, Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza (1987); George J. Sanchez’s historical account, Becoming Mexican American: Ethnicity, Culture, and Identity in Chicano Los Angeles, 1900-1945 (1995); and the two volumes of The Chicano Studies Reader: An Anthology of Aztlan, 1970-2010. These are a few examples of the consolidation and the continuing development of Chicano Studies in the United States. In the past two decades, Latino Studies have grown and expanded significantly. There have been a large number of publications about Latinxs in the Midwest and North East; in addition, due to the fast-growing population of Latinxs in the area, new scholarship has emerged about the Latinxs in the New South. Some examples of the emerging field of Latino Studies are the Latinos on the East Coast (2015) edited by Yolanda Medina and Ángeles Donoso Macaya, Global Cities and Immigrants (2015) by Francisco Velasco Caballero and María de los Angeles Torres; the Handbook of Latinos and Education (2010) edited by Enrique Murillo, et al.; Angela Anselmo’s and Alma Rubal-Lopez’s 2004 On Becoming Nuyoricans; David Carey Jr. and Robert Atkinson (2009) Latino Voices in New England; Yolanda Prieto’s case study entitled, The Cubans of Union City: Immigrants and Exiles in a New Jersey Community (2009); and Lawrence La Fontaine-Stokes’ Queer Ricans Cultures and Sexualities in the Diaspora (2009). Critical Studies of Latinxs in the Americas will become the counterpart of the aforementioned research about the Latinx diaspora that deserve equal scholarly attention and will add to the academic field of inquiry that highlights the lived experience, consequential progress and contributions, as well as the issues and concerns that all Latinxs face in present times. This provocative series will offer a critical space for reflection and questioning of what it means to be Latinx living in the Americas, extending the dialogue to include the North and South hemispheric relations that are prevalent in other fields of global studies such as Post-Colonial Theory, Post-Colonial Feminism, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Critical Race Theory, and others. This broader scope can contribute to prolific interdisciplinary research and can also promote changes in policies and practices that will enable today’s leaders to deal with the overall issues that affect us all. Topics that explore contemporary inequalities and social exclusions associated with processes of racialization, economic exploitation, health, education, transnationalism, immigration, identity politics, and abilities that are not commonly highlighted in the current literature as well as the multitude of socio-economic, and cultural commonalities and differences among the Latinxs in the Americas will be at the center of the series. As the Latinx population continues to grow and change, and universities enhance their Latino Studies programs to be inclusive of all types of Latinx identities, a series dedicated to the lived experience of Latinxs in the Americas and a consideration of their progress and concerns in the social, cultural, political, economic, and artistic arenas is of incredible value in the quest for pedagogical practices and understandings that apply a critical perspective to the issues facing scholars in this area of study. Scholars, faculties, and students alike will benefit from this series. Expressions of interest for authored or edited books will be considered on a first come basis.
