Women, Gender and Sexuality in German Literature and Culture

Women, Gender and Sexuality in German Literature and Culture welcomes proposals for monographs and rigorously edited essay collections focusing on the work of women and LGBTQ+ creators as well as the representation of women, gender and/or sexuality in literature, media and culture. The series contributes to efforts to broaden the German-language canon by publishing pioneering studies of relatively unknown writers, artists and filmmakers and cutting-edge assessments of more established figures. Studies of the history of women and LGBTQ+ subjects in German-speaking cultures, such as the participation of women in German, Austrian, Swiss and exile intellectual life and the struggle for equal rights, as well as historical considerations of gender and sexuality in German-speaking countries, are also encouraged. Hispanic Studies: Culture and Ideas

This series aims to publish studies in the arts, humanities and social sciences, the main focus of which is the Hispanic World. The series invites proposals with interdisciplinary approaches to Hispanic culture in fields such as the history of concepts and ideas, the sociology of culture, the evolution of the visual arts, the critique of literature and the uses of historiography. It is not confined to a particular historical period. Monographs as well as collected papers are welcome. Languages of publication are English and Spanish.

This interdisciplinary and international book series aims to bring together current approaches in the environmental humanities (particularly in the fields of ecocriticism, environmental history, and environmental justice), with a focus on European contexts. "EUROSINICA is a book series for monographs of various thematic focuses, sharing the goal of studying culture and literature in contemporary or historical contexts. The series, under the imprint of Peter Lang, was founded in 1984 by the German sinologist Günther Debon (1921–2005) and the Canadian comparatist Adrian Hsia (1938–2010); so far, thirteen books have been published. While the founding editors placed the emphasis on the transfer processes of classical literary works and motifs between cultures, the continuation of their work requires new approaches. Rather than operate within the conceptual framework of “cultural dialogue” between an East and a West viewed as distinct entities, the series editors tend to a view of cultures in contact. EUROSINICA is accordingly open for studies and interpretation of authors, personalities, genres and individual works committed to an understanding of humanity as a common source of values which, rather than be impeded by cultural, linguistic or ethnic disparity, are being reshaped and reinvented in different settings. From the basic concept the series’ founders have contributed, we will carry on the approach to literature, the arts and history as transnational narratives emerging out of distinct contextualization and relying on as well as contributing to both the European and the Sinic cultural spheres. We explicitly welcome well-argued innovative interpretations of classical works, as we do historical and translation studies. At a time of ongoing global changes of aesthetic and critical paradigms, EUROSINICA does not intend to propose the East-West-paradigm as a last refuge for intellectual cultural conservatism, but rather envisages new critical approaches to the sporadic process of aesthetic and historical interactions (“contacts”) between formerly allegedly “separated” cultural spheres. For Authors EUROSINICA expects to publish between one and two volumes annually and aims for a balance between studies of contemporary or ancient focus. It thereby seeks to counter the trend of separating research on classical and modern issues. EUROSINICA will consider manuscripts in European languages. The series editors and board members are scholars at universities in the Baltic and Nordic countries of Europe, as well as in mainland China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. Institutionelle und Sozial-Ökonomie / Institutional and Socio-Economics

"In the "Institutional and Socio-Economics" book series, the economy is studied as a genuinely social system of heterogeneous agents in an institutional context. The series includes a broad range of different methodological approaches, theoretical perspectives and subjects of study. Interdependencies among agents in complex social systems can be studied using evolutionary economic models, as well as institutional economic and simulation studies. Hence, the focus is being laid on approaches that are more explorative than the standard equilibrium analysis; on approaches that allow for complexity; on approaches that consider development, history, institutions, and values. Thus, we may conclude that institutions are more than just devices for the reduction of transaction costs. From an institutionalist perspective, institutions are the common and collective solutions to social decision problems, particularly social dilemma problems, coordination problems, and collective-good problems. Such solutions require ‘recognized interdependence’ and learned coordination and cooperation, thus a learned culture of a long-run perspective – emerging as the result of a process of interactions. Institutions often are transitory only, part of the ongoing dynamics, adequately modeled possibly as an evolutionary process. Also, they may be instrumental solutions to a social decision problem at first and may degenerate into ceremonial power-and-status-based phenomena later, thus limiting the possibility of further innovation and development. In a genealogy of economics, the thematic and methodological spectrum of this book series would embrace the history of thought beginning with the classics including great names such as Adam Smith and Karl Marx but also the late classics who already have struggled with issues like complexity, process, historical time, and evolution. In newer times, the spectrum continues with Veblenian, Keynesian, and Post-Keynesian thinking; it would also include works in the traditions of original institutionalist economics, ecological economics, Neo-Schumpeterian thinking, evolutionary economics, and game theory. Social economics and social policy analysis, behavioral economics, complex modeling, system dynamics, and agent-based computational economics would be embraced as well. Such lists, however, can never be exhaustive. Last not least, institutional and socio-economics deals with the epistemology and substance of values, norms and ethics, value warrants of economic behavior as well as the normative foundations of economics. This series, thus, stands in the best traditions of plural economic research areas and pluralistic theoretical perspectives. It may be called ’heterodox’, but it shall always be cutting-edge and of high quality. Enjoy exploring the works of this book series. Art – Knowledge – Theory

Art Knowledge Theory is a book series that explores artistic modes of expression as forms of knowledge production. It focuses on transdisciplinary, epistemological and methodological approaches to contemporary art. Linking artistic and scientific practices, tools, techniques and theories, the volumes investigate the cultures of aesthetics and science studies as they relate to works of art. Art Knowledge Theory analyzes the role of art in contemporary culture by probing the philosophical, historical and social parameters by which images are accessed and assessed. As an amplification - as well as intervention or even a correction to historical research, this series questions the state of the art and knowledge within a culture, characterized by technology and science.

Schola Nisibina - Beṯ Sefro da-Nṣiḇin

The history of the cultures that share a common Aramaean heritage stretches over 3000 years, but there is a danger that these communities will permanently disappear from the Near East. It is more important than ever to preserve the remainder of their cultural heritage, yet social scientific and cultural studies on these cultures have only just begun. To promote such research, members of Aramaean diaspora created the Research Centre of Aramaean Studies as an academic institute. This centre aims to broaden the perspective of historical investigation of these communities as well as reevaluate models for historical research. Exchange between Aramaean and non-Aramaean scholars will address new problems and questions. The Research Centre of Aramaean Studies publishes their findings in the series Schola Nisibina – Beṯ Sefro da-Nṣiḇin. Die Geschichte der aramäisch geprägten Kulturen lässt sich über 3000 Jahre zurückverfolgen, doch ist zu befürchten, dass sie heute im Vorderen Orient endgültig untergehen. Die Reste ihres kulturellen Erbes zu sichern, ist daher dringender geboten denn je, doch noch steht ihre sozial- und kulturwissenschaftliche Erforschung am Anfang. Um sie voranzutreiben, haben sich aramäische Bürger dazu entschlossen, mit der Forschungsstelle für Aramäische Studien eine universitäre Institution dafür zu schaffen. Sie trägt zu einer Öffnung der Geschichtswissenschaften und zu einer Überprüfung historischer Modelle bei. Im Austausch zwischen aramäischen und nichtaramäischen Wissenschaftlern werden neue Fragestellungen erprobt. In der Reihe Schola Nisibina – Beṯ Sefro da-Nṣiḇin veröffentlicht die Forschungsstelle für Aramäische Studien ihre Ergebnisse.

European Connections

European Connections: Studies in Comparative Literature, Intermediality and Aesthetics is a peer-reviewed series that publishes innovative research monographs, edited volumes as well as translations of key theoretical works. The series focuses on the literary and artistic relations that have shaped and continue to shape European cultures across national, linguistic and media boundaries, leading to vibrant new forms of artistic creation and aesthetic expression. It also wishes to explore relations with non-European cultures with a view to fostering more equitable models of cultural exchange and transfer. The series promotes comparative, intermedial and interdisciplinary approaches, whether studies of specific writers, filmmakers and artists; critical re-evaluations of historical periods (from the medieval to the ultra-contemporary) and movements; or wider theoretical reflections within the fields of comparative literature, intermediality studies and aesthetics. In light of the urgent need to revitalize the idea of Europe along new lines of thought, the series encourages research that explores the rich connections within European artistic and cultural production as well as the participation of European cultures in what the great philosopher of relation Édouard Glissant has called the Tout-monde. The aim of the series Worlds of East Asia of the Swiss Asia Society is to publish high-quality, representative work issuing from academic research on all aspects of East Asia. It comprises, and receives, studies on present-day and historical East Asian cultures and societies covering the fields of art, literature and thought as well as translations and interpretations of important sources. Furthermore the series intends to present studies that offer expert knowledge on relevant themes and current questions appealing not only to the academic public, but also to an audience generally interested in East Asia. One important goal of the series is to establish a forum for academic work in the fields of the humanities and social sciences in Switzerland. However, the series is also committed to the rich variety of studies and writing on East Asia in the international research community. The main publication languages for studies, collections (by individual or several contributors), and surveys are therefore German, French, and English. The series is supervised and internally reviewed by an editorial board comprising leading representatives in East Asian studies. La série Mondes de l’Extrême-Orient de la Société Suisse-Asie publie des recherches de qualité représentatives de la recherche académique sur les cultures et sociétés de l’Asie orientale. Elle propose des études dans des domaines variés comme l’art, la littérature, et la pensée, anciens ou modernes, ainsi que des traductions et interprétations de sources. Elle publie également des travaux qui traitent de questions plus actuelles ou immédiates, de façon compétente mais abordable, avec le souhait de toucher, au-delà des cercles académiques, le grand public cultivé. Cultural History and Literary Imagination

This series promotes critical inquiry into the relationship between the literary imagination and its cultural, intellectual or political contexts. The series encourages the investigation of the role of the literary imagination in cultural history and the interpretation of cultural history through literature, visual culture and the performing arts. Contributions of a comparative or interdisciplinary nature are particularly welcome. Individual volumes might, for example, be concerned with any of the following: The mediation of cultural and historical memory, The material conditions of particular cultural manifestations, The construction of cultural and political meaning, Intellectual culture and the impact of scientific thought, The methodology of cultural inquiry, Intermediality, Intercultural relations and practices. Acceptance is subject to advice from our editorial board, and all proposals and manuscripts undergo a rigorous peer review assessment prior to publication. The usual language of publication is English, but proposals in French, German, Italian and Spanish may also be considered. Imagining Black Europe

This series seeks to publish critical and nuanced scholarship in the field of Black European Studies. Moving beyond and building on the Black Atlantic approach, books in this series will underscore the existence, diversity and evolution of Black Europe. They will provide historical, intersectional and interdisciplinary perspectives on how Black diasporic peoples have reconfigured the boundaries of Black identity making, claim making and politics; created counterdiscourses and counterpublics on race, colonialism, postcolonialism and racism; and forged transnational connections and solidarities across Europe and the globe. The series will also illustrate the ways that Black European diasporic peoples have employed intellectual, socio-political, artistic/cultural, affective, digital and pedagogical work to aid their communities and causes, challenge their exclusion and cultivate ties with their allies, thus gaining recognition in their societies and beyond. Representing the field’s dynamic growth methodologically, geographically and culturally, the series will also collectively interrogate notions of Blackness, Black diasporic culture and Europeanness while also challenging the boundaries of Europe. Books in the series will critically examine how race and ethnicity intersect with the themes of gender, nationality, class, religion, politics, kinship, sexuality, affect and the transnational, offering comparative and international perspectives. One of the main goals of the series is to introduce and produce rigorous academic research that connects not only with individuals in academia but also with a broader public.
