The series provides a forum for interdisciplinary discussion of aspects of a cultural science-oriented economics. Representations of economic relationships in literature and other arts, cultural sociological studies on the relationship between art, culture and economics, linguistics and literary analysis of economic narratives and metaphors, and the importance of cultural studies concepts such as fictionality and virtuality in the context of financial economics are topics of the series. Also, studies on the design and manipulation of spaces, time management and cultural practices are within its scope. Manuscript Proposals may be submitted in literary and cultural studies, economics, sociology, and philosophy – like with comparative or interdisciplinary approach. Languages of publication are primarily German and English. All volumes are peer reviewed. «Comparatism and Society» is an interdisciplinary collection which considers literature, the arts and the humanities in a close interaction with the evolution of society and the history of ideas. Although open to a wide range of methodologies, it nevertheless favours the perspective of cross-analysis, convinced that the objective of all research should be to reach beyond the limits of linguistic, national and disciplinary borders. The aim of the series Worlds of South and Inner Asia of the Swiss Asia Society is to publish highquality, representative work issuing from academic research on all aspects of South and Inner Asia. It comprises, and accepts, studies on historical and present-day South and Inner Asian cultures and societies covering the fields of history, literature, thought, politics and art as well as translations and interpretations of important primary sources. Furthermore the series intends to present studies that offer expert knowledge on current themes appealing not only to the aca demic public, but also to an audience generally interested in South and Inner Asia. One important goal of the series is to establish a forum for academic work in the fields of the humanities and social sciences in Switzerland. However, the series is also committed to the rich variety of studies and writings in the international research community. Studies in Modern German and Austrian Literature is a broadly conceived series that aims to publish significant research and scholarship devoted to German and Austrian literature of all forms and genres from the eighteenth century to the present day. The series promotes the analysis of intersections of literature with thought, society and other art forms, such as film, theatre, autobiography, music, painting, sculpture and performance art. It includes monographs on single authors or works, focused historical periods, and studies of experimentation with form and genre. Wider ranging explorations of literary, cultural or socio-political phenomena in the German-speaking lands or among writers in exile and analyses of national, ethnic and cultural identities in literature are also welcome topics. Proposals are invited for monographs, high-quality doctoral dissertations revised for book publication, focused collections of essays (including selectively edited conference proceedings), annotated editions and bibliographies. Senior figures in the academic profession as well as early career or independent scholars are encouraged to submit proposals. All proposals and manuscripts will be peer reviewed. We publish in both German and English. This series is a successor to Studies in Modern German Literature, edited by Peter D.G. Brown.

German Life and Civilization contributes to a critical understanding of Central European cultural history from medieval times to the present. Culture is here defined in the broadest sense, comprising expressions and representations in literature, music, performative and pictorial arts, and media, as well as political and sociohistorical developments in the texture of everyday life. Building on its strengths in GDR scholarship and political literature, the series also seeks to explore newer thematic trends such as human entanglements with the environment and natural world, and transnational and minority communities. Fremdsprachendidaktik inhalts- und lernerorientiert / Foreign Language Pedagogy – content- and learner-oriented

Content and Learner-oriented Foreign Language Pedagogy is dedicated to theoretical, practical and current issues in foreign language learning and teaching. One of the main focuses of Hannover's Department of Foreign Language Pedagogy is media didactics. It encompasses fields such as artistic media, fine arts and music, (volumes 1, 12 and 17) as well as digitized media. They are analyzed from the perspective of their potential contribution to language education (volumes 7 and 28). As well as discussing media-related pedagogy (also covered in volumes 1, 11, 15 and 20 on media didactics) this book series deals with teaching literature (volumes 5 and 10) and content and language integrated learning (CLIL) (volumes 9, 21 and 26). Over the last few years, empirical research has been published on learner language, assessment and the implementation of the language portfolio (volumes 23, 25 and 26). Previous publications have included work by guest researchers, and the publishers welcome ideas for future manuscripts. Co-founder: Karlheinz Hellwig Prior to publication, the quality of the works published in this series is reviewed by all editors of the series. Cultural History and Literary Imagination

This series promotes critical inquiry into the relationship between the literary imagination and its cultural, intellectual or political contexts. The series encourages the investigation of the role of the literary imagination in cultural history and the interpretation of cultural history through literature, visual culture and the performing arts. Contributions of a comparative or interdisciplinary nature are particularly welcome. Individual volumes might, for example, be concerned with any of the following: The mediation of cultural and historical memory, The material conditions of particular cultural manifestations, The construction of cultural and political meaning, Intellectual culture and the impact of scientific thought, The methodology of cultural inquiry, Intermediality, Intercultural relations and practices. Acceptance is subject to advice from our editorial board, and all proposals and manuscripts undergo a rigorous peer review assessment prior to publication. "EUROSINICA is a book series for monographs of various thematic focuses, sharing the goal of studying culture and literature in contemporary or historical contexts. The series, under the imprint of Peter Lang, was founded in 1984 by the German sinologist Günther Debon (1921–2005) and the Canadian comparatist Adrian Hsia (1938–2010); so far, thirteen books have been published. While the founding editors placed the emphasis on the transfer processes of classical literary works and motifs between cultures, the continuation of their work requires new approaches. Rather than operate within the conceptual framework of “cultural dialogue” between an East and a West viewed as distinct entities, the series editors tend to a view of cultures in contact. EUROSINICA is accordingly open for studies and interpretation of authors, personalities, genres and individual works committed to an understanding of humanity as a common source of values which, rather than be impeded by cultural, linguistic or ethnic disparity, are being reshaped and reinvented in different settings. From the basic concept the series’ founders have contributed, we will carry on the approach to literature, the arts and history as transnational narratives emerging out of distinct contextualization and relying on as well as contributing to both the European and the Sinic cultural spheres. We explicitly welcome well-argued innovative interpretations of classical works, as we do historical and translation studies. At a time of ongoing global changes of aesthetic and critical paradigms, EUROSINICA does not intend to propose the East-West-paradigm as a last refuge for intellectual cultural conservatism, but rather envisages new critical approaches to the sporadic process of aesthetic and historical interactions (“contacts”) between formerly allegedly “separated” cultural spheres. For Authors EUROSINICA expects to publish between one and two volumes annually and aims for a balance between studies of contemporary or ancient focus. It thereby seeks to counter the trend of separating research on classical and modern issues. EUROSINICA will consider manuscripts in European languages. The series editors and board members are scholars at universities in the Baltic and Nordic countries of Europe, as well as in mainland China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. The aim of the series Worlds of East Asia of the Swiss Asia Society is to publish high-quality, representative work issuing from academic research on all aspects of East Asia. It comprises, and receives, studies on present-day and historical East Asian cultures and societies covering the fields of art, literature and thought as well as translations and interpretations of important sources. Furthermore the series intends to present studies that offer expert knowledge on relevant themes and current questions appealing not only to the academic public, but also to an audience generally interested in East Asia. One important goal of the series is to establish a forum for academic work in the fields of the humanities and social sciences in Switzerland. However, the series is also committed to the rich variety of studies and writing on East Asia in the international research community. The main publication languages for studies, collections (by individual or several contributors), and surveys are therefore German, French, and English. The series is supervised and internally reviewed by an editorial board comprising leading representatives in East Asian studies. La série Mondes de l’Extrême-Orient de la Société Suisse-Asie publie des recherches de qualité représentatives de la recherche académique sur les cultures et sociétés de l’Asie orientale. Elle propose des études dans des domaines variés comme l’art, la littérature, et la pensée, anciens ou modernes, ainsi que des traductions et interprétations de sources. Elle publie également des travaux qui traitent de questions plus actuelles ou immédiates, de façon compétente mais abordable, avec le souhait de toucher, au-delà des cercles académiques, le grand public cultivé. L’un des buts de la série est de servir de forum pour les sciences humaines et sociales dans le domaine des études asiatique en Suisse. Scottish Studies International

The Scottish Studies International (SSI) series produced by the Faculty of Translation Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz in Germersheim, Germany, publishes high-quality research work from across the broad and varied spectrum of Scottish Studies. Founded in 1982 by the late Professor Horst W. Drescher, the series originally focused on literature and translation studies. Current editor, Professor Klaus Peter Müller, has since extended its scope into the fields of cultural and media studies, a widening of range and perspective that is also reflected in the faculty's bi-annual Scottish Studies Newsletter. The series aims to explore both Scotland's turbulent past and its intriguing present flux in its culture, society, politics, economy, media, art, and literature. In order to evaluate their suitability for publication, all texts submitted will be peer-reviewed by the general editor as well as by members of the editorial board. Mikrokosmos

Wolfgang Harms established the Mikrokosmos series in 1974 and was later joined by Peter Strohschneider as co-editor. In 2015, editorial responsibility was taken over by Frieder von Ammon and Michael Waltenberger. The monographs and anthologies published in this series focus on subjects in the field of German-speaking literature from the distant past right up to the present. Areas of contact with neighbouring literature, relations to other forms of art, and interrelationships with cultural contexts are also addressed. Particular focus lies on studies that analyse their subject matter in great depth, combined with extensive conceptual and methodical reflection, to produce advanced contributions to topics currently under discussion in the field of literature theory. Die Reihe Mikrokosmos wurde 1974 von Wolfgang Harms gegründet, später von ihm gemeinsam mit Peter Strohschneider herausgegeben. Seit 2015 liegt die Herausgeberschaft bei Frieder von Ammon und Michael Waltenberger. Die Monographien und Sammelbände der Reihe befassen sich mit Themen aus dem Gesamtbereich der deutschsprachigen Literatur von ihren Anfängen bis zur Gegenwart. Kontaktzonen zu den Nachbarliteraturen, Beziehungen zu den anderen Künsten und Wechselwirkungen mit kulturellen Kontexten werden mitbeachtet. Imagining Black Europe

This series seeks to publish critical and nuanced scholarship in the field of Black European Studies. Moving beyond and building on the Black Atlantic approach, books in this series will underscore the existence, diversity and evolution of Black Europe. They will provide historical, intersectional and interdisciplinary perspectives on how Black diasporic peoples have reconfigured the boundaries of Black identity making, claim making and politics; created counterdiscourses and counterpublics on race, colonialism, postcolonialism and racism; and forged transnational connections and solidarities across Europe and the globe. The series will also illustrate the ways that Black European diasporic peoples have employed intellectual, socio-political, artistic/cultural, affective, digital and pedagogical work to aid their communities and causes, challenge their exclusion and cultivate ties with their allies, thus gaining recognition in their societies and beyond. Representing the field’s dynamic growth methodologically, geographically and culturally, the series will also collectively interrogate notions of Blackness, Black diasporic culture and Europeanness while also challenging the boundaries of Europe. Books in the series will critically examine how race and ethnicity intersect with the themes of gender, nationality, class, religion, politics, kinship, sexuality, affect and the transnational, offering comparative and international perspectives. One of the main goals of the series is to introduce and produce rigorous academic research that connects not only with individuals in academia but also with a broader public. Research on Korea

The series Research on Korea responds to the fact that interest in Korea and the need for reliable information on the country's history and present have risen considerably during the last decades, both in- and outside of academia. The series offers an interdisciplinary platform for academic works engaging with Korea. Not being restricted to specific methodological or historiographical approaches, the series is open for studies of Korea in any field as long as they make use of Korean primary sources and systematically engage with Korean language secondary literature. Based on solid methodology, the studies assembled in this series aim to open up paths for new insights and new research questions on Korea and Korea's role in the regional and international context. In der Schriftenreihe Research on Korea werden neuere Ergebnisse der Koreaforschung veröffentlicht, um dem in den letzten Jahrzehnten stark gesteigerten Interesse der akademischen und allgemeinen Öffentlichkeit an verlässlichen Informationen zu Korea nachzukommen. Sie bietet ihr eine interdisziplinäre Plattform, ohne sich dabei methodisch oder historiographisch bestimmten Richtungen verpflichtet zu fühlen. Allerdings legen die Herausgeber großen Wert darauf, dass koreanische Primärquellen ebenso wie in koreanischer Sprache verfasste Sekundärliteratur umfassend und systematisch verwendet werden. German Studies in America publishes research across the field of German studies in the broadest sense, from literary criticism to cultural studies. The editors welcome scholarly work that takes an innovative approach to German, Swiss, or Austrian history, literature, politics, philosophy, national identity, religion, popular culture, film, music, and/or visual art. We are also eager to consider projects that adopt interdisciplinary and intersectional approaches as well as studies with theoretical approaches including psychoanalysis, gender studies, feminism, Marxism, critical race studies, etc. We publish scholarly monographs, translations and edited volumes of essays in both German and English. Signaturen der Gewalt / Signatures of Violence

Violence often takes the form of a catastrophic eruption. However, it also inscribes itself in different ways in the everyday life of society. Literary texts and media discourse are capable of analysing the relations between macro and micro levels of violence as forms of symbolic action. In the process, the critique of violence does not simply address the question of the representation of violence; the question of the violence of representation needs to be pursued as well. The series Signatures of Violence brings together innovative, transdisciplinary approaches to these difficult questions in the field of literary and media studies. Gewalt tritt oft in Form katastrophischer Eruptionen auf. Aber sie schreibt sich auch auf vielfältige Art und Weise in den gesellschaftlichen Alltag ein. Literarische und mediale Texte sind in der Lage, die Beziehungen zwischen Makro- und Mikroebenen von Gewalterscheinungen als symbolische Handlungen zu analysieren. Dabei wirft die Kritik der Gewalt nicht nur die Frage der Darstellung der Gewalt auf; auch der Frage nach der Gewalt der Darstellung muss nachgegangen werden. Die Reihe Signaturen der Gewalt bietet literatur- und medienwissenschaftlichen Studien einen Raum, welche innovative, transdisziplinäre Zugänge zu diesen schwierigen Fragen öffnen.
