Biographical notes

Marian Amengual-Pizarro (Author) Rosa Alonso Alonso (Author)

Marian Amengual-Pizarro holds a PhD in applied linguistics from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), Spain. She is a tenured Senior Lecturer in English in the Spanish, Modern and Classic Philology Department (English Philology) at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). She has been a visiting professor at several universities, such as Radboud University (Nijmegen, The Netherlands) and the University of Lund (Sweden). She has participated in several funded national research projects on testing and second language teaching and learning. Since 2015, she has been the editor of the journal 'Revista Electrónica de Lingüística Aplicada' (RAEL) of the Asociación Española de Lingüística Aplicada (AESLA), indexed in JCR, Scopus, Emerging Sources Citation, ERIH Plus, DOAJ, and FECYT, among others. Marian has edited several books and has contributed numerous articles on applied linguistics in various specialized national and refereed international journals, such as English Studies, Springer, Profile: Issues in Teachers’ Professional Development, The European Journal of Teacher Education, Vigo International Journal of Applied Linguistics (VIAL), International Journal of English Studies (IJES), Journal of the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies (ATLANTIS), among others. Rosa Alonso Alonso holds a PhD in English from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. She worked in the Language Centre of that University and in the English Department of the same University. She has been a senior lecturer at the Department of English, French and German at the University of Vigo since 2006. She has been a visiting professor at several universities such as the University of London, Southern Denmark and Brussels. She is the author of the books The role of transfer in Second Language Acquisition (2002), Writing for academic purposes (2010), La transferencia lingüística: perspectivas actuales (2020) and Factores individuales en el aprendizaje de segundas lenguas (2023). Since 2003 she has been the editor of Vigo International Journal of Applied Linguistics, indexed in Scopus, ERIH, WOK and JCR, among others. She has recently edited two books: Speaking in a Second Language (2018) published by John Benjamins and Crosslinguistic Influence in Second Language Acquisition (2016) published by Multilingual Matters and she is the author of numerous articles in national and international journals. She is also the co-author of the Diccionario de Enseñanza y Aprendizaje de lenguas (2007), published by enClave-ELE. She has also collaborated with the Encyclopedia of Applied Linguistics, directed by Carol Chapelle and edited by Blackwell/Wiley&sons.
