Economic and environmental approaches for agro-based sectors sustainable development
Keywords: high nature value farming area, agrifood systems, ecotourism, sustainable land use, agriculture funding, environmental impact, local communities.Abstract: Since the farming areas and the natural resources are limited in space and time, novel solutions must be implemented. The present article targets current views on integrating the relatively new concept of high-value natural farming areas into future agriculture. The extensive analysis of the current state of the art highlights the advantages of implementing the mentioned concept for these zones. We used data from the most comprehensive databases to conduct this systematic literature review, focusing primarily on the economic and environmental aspects. The preferred reporting items for methodic evaluation and meta-analyzes guided the data selected for this paper. The views discussed, and the tools analyzed through the article are aligned with the current trends of having a minimal environmental impact and obtaining healthier products. The concrete points addressed respond to the contemporary specific market demands. The analysis results show that the high-value natural farming areas offer several economic and ecological advantages and disadvantages that must be considered when making management and conservation decisions and assessing their sustainability. Moreover, a sustained investment approach is essential for the world’s agrifood systems to become more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and inclusive. Social capital in local communities supports the symbiosis of agriculture and tourism. However, optimal regional linkages are hampered by the quantitative and qualitative mismatch between locally supplied products and the tourism sector requirements. Based on these premises, we substantiated our investigation, which aimed to determine the degree of interest of the residents of the Lipovi Hills area for ecological label guesthouses. The research results highlight that most respondents need to be more familiar with what the European ecological label or ecological product means. These elements lead us in the direction of recommending continuous training and the idea of developing new information projects and awareness in the field.
Introduction
Building a sustainable society can only be done by implementing durable principles in all sectors. Agriculture is no exception. It has to be viewed as a joint able to sustain the area from the financial, ecosystemic, public, and nutritional points of view (Soussana, 2014). The vision of rural development and its alignment with local planning can create meaningful change with sufficient funding and support (Park and Lee, 2019).
The article comprises two main parts. One presents the current state of the art regarding the possibilities of designing and developing eco-friendly economic activities. The focus is on the rural plain and hilly areas. The second is a survey implemented in a specific part of West Romania, targeting the ecolabel guest houses.
The review part of the article aims to resume, identify, and understand new insights into agri-environmental systems that promote sustainable and efficient eco-friendly farming practices that ensure long-term food security. It was also important to highlight how conservation agriculture can help maintain soil fertility, reduce erosion, and conserve water resources in the high nature value farming areas (HNVF) systems. Such a concept is closely related to the routes for involving local communities and small farmers in sustainable agricultural practices and how awareness of the importance of agri-environment vision can be promoted among the farmers. These were the fundaments considered initially for this study.
The second aspect of interest was evaluated through a survey. Its purpose was to quantify the population situated in the Lipova Hill area’s interest in ecologically labelled products, targeting mainly the guest houses. Such facilities can be developed in locations relatively close to where the analysis was carried out. Two hypotheses were formulated. The first (H1) from which the study started considered that the inhabitants of the area prefer to stay in hotels during a stay to the detriment of boarding houses. The second (H2) assumes that education, in this sense, is necessary for requirements for guesthouses with the European ecological label or the development of ecotourism.

Adopting the proper direction to ensure greeneries agrochemical growth conditions and minimizing the ecological impact will contribute to sustainable agricultural development (Sheoran et al., 2022).
