Summary

For a long time now, the notion of ‘the other’ or ‘otherness’ has been fully accepted by research in anthropology, history, art history, literary studies, and similar fields, and this especially in Medieval Studies, as a valuable hermeneutic concept. This category or theme had been the central topic of the International Medieval Congress in Leeds in 2017, and a selection of papers presented there, further developed for publication, has then been compiled and published by Hans-Werner Goetz and Ian Wood.
