Summary

The history of Trier goes back to the first century B.C.E., when the Romans established a military base on the site, and its municipal library contains some impressive holdings. Schnell and Steiner, famed for their publication of guides to German churches, have now published a book which illustrates one hundred of the choicest items from the city’s library. While not intended for scholarly research, this is a coffee-table book which admirably succeeds in providing the general public an overview of the library’s collection.
