Summary

As a service-oriented industry and with its distinctive characteristics, tourism is based on experiences. It is necessary to provide the highest level of service and to keep the quality of interaction at a certain level. In the tourism industry, differentiation and new perspectives are needed in order to increase the quality of experiences and to have a different position in the minds of individuals than competitors. There is a crucial role of efficient management of business processes in order to ascertain this differentiation. Herein, especially in tourism and hospitality industry, the pursuance of new tendencies will provide substantial benefits to the relevant enterprises at all of these processes. From this point of view, with this book, the aim is to guide tourism organizations in terms of improving service encounter processes and quality of experiences by giving crucial tips about current managerial perspectives and practices.

Notes on Contributors

Elbeyi PELİT was born in Gümüşhane, Turkey in 1978. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Gümüşhane. He received his bachelor’s, master’s degree in tourism management from Sakarya University and doctoral degree in tourism management education from Gazi University. Working in the fields of Tourism, Tourism Education, Tourism Management, Human Resources Management in Tourism and Tourism policy, Professor Elbeyi PELİT has published many articles, papers, books and book chapters in these fields and is the editor of the Journal of Tourist Guide, Journal of Contemporary Tourism Research and Afyon Kocatepe University Journal of Social Sciences (Turkey). He is still working at the Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Tourism.

H. Hüseyin SOYBALI was born in Afyonkarahisar province of Turkey in 1967. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Afyonkarahisar. He received his bachelor’s degree from Uludag University, Balikesir School of Tourism and Hotel Management. He received his MSc degree in Tourism Management from the University of Surrey and PhD degree from Bournemouth University in England, UK. His main research interest areas include tourism development, tourism management, tourism policy and planning, human resources management and tourism education. Professor SOYBALI has published a book, many book chapters, articles and papers. He is working at the Afyon Kocatepe University, Faculty of Tourism as a senior professor and vice dean.

Kezban TALAK was born in Germany and has completed primary, secondary and high school in Turkey and Germany. She has a master’s and Ph.D. from Marmara University. She works as an assistant to Prof. Dr. in International Business Administration in German. She studies on international management and organization.

Bilal ÇANKIR has completed his undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. degrees in Business Administration and Tourism departments. He has studied organizational behavior and positive organizational behavior subjects during his education. He also did a Ph.D. study at UT Dallas about burnout and organizational citizenship behavior. He worked as a research assistant at Kirklareli University from 2010 to 2017. He is currently working as an associate professor at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Business Department, and his active research topics are Positive Organizational Behavior, Management, and Burnout. He also serves as Deputy Director of School of Civil Aviation at Istanbul Medeniyet University. He is editor of the Journal of Behavior at Work. Bilal ÇANKIR has numerous peer-reviewed papers and conference articles.

Nazlı EREN GÜN was born in 1984, Bursa. She completed primary and secondary education in Bursa and high school education in Edirne. She received an associate degree from Kocaeli University Derbent Vocational School, Tourism Guidance Department; bachelor’s degree from Gazi University Faculty of Commerce and Tourism Education, Travel Management and Tourism Guidance Education Department and master’s degree from Istanbul University Social Sciences Institute Tourism Management Department. She is still studying for Ph.D. at Istanbul Medeniyet University Postgraduate Education Institute, Tourism Management Department and also working as a research assistant at Istanbul Medeniyet University, Tourism Faculty. She studies in the fields of tourism social psychology, heritage tourism, memory tourism, history of war, battlefield tourism, peace tourism, tourism and language alienation, cultural studies and identity. He published academic studies on “The Effects of Tourism Concepts on Language Alienation,” “Examining the Attitude and Perception of the Ottoman People in the Balkan Wars Process,” “Battlefield Tourism in the Paradigm of ‘Peace among War-Torn Communities.’ ”

V. Rüya EHTİYAR is a professor at Akdeniz University Tourism Faculty. She received a bachelor of Business Administration degree from Anadolu University, a master of Tourism degree from Akdeniz University, and a Ph.D. in Tourism from Gazi University. She works in the fields of tourism and hotel management, organizational behavior and organizational psychology.

Aslı ERSOY holds a Ph.D. in tourism. She received a bachelor of Tourism degree from Adnan Menderes University, a master of Tourism degree from Akdeniz University and a Ph.D. in Tourism from Akdeniz University. She works on issues such as culture, cultural intelligence and managerial resourcefulness.

Ahmet BAYTOK is the head of department at the Tourism Management department at Afyon Kocatepe University and has received his associate professorship in Tourism. He currently interests in the research of leadership in hospitality, organizational behavior, management and sustainability in tourism.

Özcan ZORLU is the co-head of Tourism Guidance department at faculty of Tourism at Afyon Kocatepe University. He received his bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism management at Balıkesir University and his master’s degree in tourism management from Balıkesir University. He has received his associate professorship in tourism and written widely on specifically organizational behavior, knowledge management and alternative tourism activities in tourism.

Ali AVAN is the vice dean of Faculty of Tourism at Afyon Kocatepe University. He received his bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism management at Mersin University, his master’s degree in tourism management from Afyon Kocatepe University and his Ph.D. in business administration from Afyon Kocatepe University. He is assistant professor in Tourism Management department now, and his areas of research include consumer behavior in tourism, services marketing, tourism marketing and sustainability in tourism.

Çağdaş ERTAŞ is the head of Tourism Management department at Şırnak University School of Tourism and Hotel Management. He received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and a Ph.D. degree in Tourism Management from Mersin University. Çağdaş Ertaş, who has carried out research on tourism management and tourism sociology, continues his studies on sociological issues in tourism.

Tuğba GÜRÇAYLILAR-YENİDOĞAN is a professor of management and strategy in the Department of Business Administration at Akdeniz University. Her primary research interests include network governance, corporate strategy, sustainability and innovation management. She acted as the guest editor of the special issue on “Governance of Inter-Firm Networks in the Automotive Industry: The Static-Dynamic Efficiency Paradox” in IJATM. She has published in the Service Industries Journal, International Journal of Innovation Management, International Journal of Automotive Technology and Management, Springer Book Series.

Hatice BARUT completed her bachelor’s degree in 2019 from the Department of Business Administration at Akdeniz University. She has completed business law, sign language and personal development trainings. She was part of social responsibility projects and organizations during university years. Her academic interests include business management, accounting and marketing. She currently works as a business tracking specialist responsible for production and marketing in her own family business.

Mustafa GÜLAYDIN was born in 1991 in Izmir. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Izmir. He received the bachelor of hospitality management and master of tourism management from Afyon Kocatepe University. He worked as the Front Office Manager at the Bronze Hotel in the Bodrum. His academic interests include tourism management, economy in tourism businesses, management, organizational behavior, human resource management, congress tourism, food and beverage management and business management.

Gonca AYTAŞ completed her primary, secondary and high school education in Ankara. She studied at Abant Izzet Baysal University School of Tourism Management and Hospitality. She completed her master’s degree in tourism management at Sakarya University. She completed her doctorate at Gazi University in the department of tourism management education. She received the title of associate professor in November 2020. Her academic interest includes congress-convention tourism, thermal tourism, tourism management and organizational behavior.

Esra ERENLER TEKMEN is the assistant professor of Management Department at the Cankiri Karatekin University in Turkey. She received her BA in Tourism and Hotel Management in 1996 from Uludag University in Faculty of Tourism. After her six years of experience in hospitality industry, she started her academic career as a research assistant at Akçakoca Tourism and Hotel Management School in 1999. She received a master’s degree from Abant İzzet Baysal University Business Administration Department in 2001 and her Ph.D. in management and organization in 2010 from Hacettepe University, Turkey. She joined the Cankiri Karatekin University in 2012. She is interested in employee behavior. Many of her researches have focused on management, organizational behavior and human resource management.

Gözdegül BAŞER has been working as an assistant professor at the Tourism and Management Department at Antalya Bilim University. She received her bachelor’s degree in Management from Middle East Technical University, her master’s degree in tourism management from Akdeniz University and her Ph.D. in management from Akdeniz University. Dr. Başer continues on her studies on tourism economics, tourism management and tourism marketing.

Oğuz TAŞPINAR has born in 1982, Istanbul. He completed first, middle and high school education in Istanbul. After finishing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Tourism Administration, he got Ph.D. of the same department from Istanbul University. He started teaching as a lecturer in 2012. In 2016, he started academic career as assistant professor at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. He teaches courses of bar and beverage technologies, mixology, turkish and world cuisines, gastronomy tourism and basic gastronomy.

Dr. Elbeyi PELİT is the Director of Institute of Social Sciences. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in tourism management from Sakarya University and doctoral degree in tourism management Education from Gazi University in Turkey. His research areas include working in the fields of tourism, tourism education, tourism management, human resources management and tourism policy. Professor Elbeyi Pelit has published many articles, papers, books and book chapters in these fields and is the editor of the Journal of Tourist Guide, Journal of Contemporary Tourism Research and Afyon Kocatepe University Journal of Social Sciences (Turkey). He is a head of tourist guidance department and senior lecturer at the Afyon Kocatepe University faculty of tourism. Dr. Hasan Hüseyin SOYBALI is the vice dean of faculty of tourism at Afyon Kocatepe University.
