Introduction

Digital transformation, if applied correctly, is a true competitive weapon for organizations. Digital transformation increases revenues; it increases customer satisfaction and triggers innovation by transforming business processes and models. However, if business functions such as management, human resources, logistics and finance cannot manage digital transformation well, there may be a danger of extinction for companies. In the coming periods, business life will continue to be affected by digital transformation. In this long journey, it is necessary to consider digital transformation as a moving target, a strategy that is constantly evolving, changing and needs to be updated. For this reason, businesses that have not yet implemented their digital transformation strategies or are still doing so need to know the challenges they will face in digital transformation. In the book, we tried to address the dark points that businesses should pay attention to rather than the benefits of digital transformation. That’s why we’ve named the book as the dark side of digital organizations.

In the first chapter, the teleworking model, which is one of the flexible working models that accelerates with digital transformation, is explained. The problems related to the physical, psychological, employee commitment and perceived roles that employees working from home may encounter were explained. Employers’ performance measurement problems related to the telework system, the career development of the employee and the problems that may be experienced with the organizational culture were presented and information was given about what managers should do to ensure a home-based working culture.

In the second chapter, the challenges of working in an IT-focused environment are explained in order for human resource management to cope with the changes occurring in digital organizations. In this section, information about e-human resources functions such as e-personnel affairs and e-payrolling, e-planning, e-recruitment and e-selection, e-training, e-performance management, e-remuniration and e-career management has been given, and difficulties have been discussed, and problems to be overcome are presented.

In the third chapter, information management problems in the digital world are discussed today, where information is considered an important strategic resource and power. In this chapter, points to be considered by digital organizations when managing information and the dark side of information management are presented.

The fourth chapter discusses how businesses relate to digital strategies while identifying new business models to sustain the pressures and visions that digitalization creates to change business strategies. Since digital developments force organizations to produce an aggression strategy, the phenomenon of digital strategy has been explored on the axis of the dark side of digitalization and the scope of digital disruption has been discussed.

In the fifth chapter, the threats posed by Digital Financial Process Transformation to organizations are discussed. With the addition of mobile Internet and Internet of Things to rapidly changing financial systems with artificial intelligence, blockchain and cloud technology, it has become difficult to achieve financial stability.

In the sixth chapter, changing organizational structures in digital transformation, difficulties in communication, coordination and management processes are discussed in the management dimension. Issues that should be taken into consideration by managers and leaders, such as work-life balance, occupational diseases, technology addiction, the image and brand value of the company, which has deteriorated due to cyberattacks, were pointed out.
